Moles or skin growths such as cysts, angiomas, milia, skin tags, warts, and lipomas are very common on the face, body, and scalp.
How to Get Rid of a Mole
Moles are a grouping of pigmented cells that appear as small, dark brown spots. They come in different sizes, colors, and surfaces—flat, raised, smooth, or wrinkled. Many people consider mole removal, usually for personal reasons, but sometimes based on a dermatologist’s recommendation. Some want to learn how to get rid of skin moles because they consider them unattractive. Others see changes in moles that follow the ABCDs of cancer detection. Mole removal procedures include:
- Cosmetic (laser)
- Cryosurgery (freezing)
- Cauterization (burning)
- Excision
Cysts
Cysts are closed pockets of tissue that may be filled with pus, fluid or other material and usually feel like large peas under the surface of the skin. They are caused by infection, clogging of oil glands, or foreign bodies such as earrings. Most cysts are painless; however, they may need treatment, which includes draining, cortisone injections, or excision.
Skin tags are usually not dangerous, but can be irritating. These are small flaps of tissue that hang off the skin and usually found on the chest, armpits, neck, back, under the breasts, or in the groin area. Skin tags are easily taken out using different methods including freezing, cutting or burning.
Other Skin Growths
Other growths that may need treatment for either medical or cosmetic reasons include:
- Angiomas – Benign tumors that are a clump of small blood vessels that emerge at the skin’s surface.
- Lipomas – Slow-growing, harmless fatty lumps usually located between the skin and the underlying muscle layer.
- Milia – Tiny white bumps that generally appear on or around the chin or nose. These are a result of keratin becoming trapped beneath the outer layer of skin and are harmless.
