Dealing with Liposuction Stretch Marks – Liposuction Recovery

Published on: December 21, 2016

Many patients who undergo liposuction may have some expectations that are somewhat unrealistic. This is why it is important that you understand just what liposuction can correct and what it cannot.

One of the main examples is that you need to understand that liposuction is not a weight-loss option. You will not lose a great deal of weight. In fact, it is considered a “contouring” procedure for those who are at their ideal weight but have some pockets of fat that are just not responding to diet and exercise.

Liposuction is also not designed to eliminate other body flaws such as cellulite or stretch marks. Liposuction will remove the excess fat, but will not reduce the look of scars or stretch marks.

Liposuction stretch marks can be eliminated with other procedures, such as microdermabrasion or laser treatments. In some cases, if there is a lot of loose skin, a tummy tuck or other such surgical procedure may be needed to eliminate the sagging skin.

Loose Skin During Liposuction Recovery

Many people who have lost a good amount of weight may experience loose skin during the liposuction recovery process. And because this skin has been stretched, stretch marks may appear. Stretch marks are also often caused by pregnancy. Skin that has been stretched does not usually contract, thus causing the stretch marks. As was stated before, this loose skin may need to be addressed through a tummy tuck.

Cellulite and Liposuction

The appearance of cellulite may become more pronounced after a liposuction procedure; however, it is important to understand that liposuction does not cause cellulite. If cellulite should become more pronounced during liposuction recovery, there are non-invasive treatments available that can tighten the skin and reduce the look of cellulite. Additionally, should the liposuction procedure not be done correctly, uneven results can happen. This is one of the main reasons choosing an experienced and qualified cosmetic surgeon is very important.
