Common Rashes and Treatments

Published on: March 15, 2019

Rashes are one of the most common skin conditions that can develop on individuals of any age. Rashes are considered to be an inflammation of the skin that distorts its appearance, especially with discoloration. A variety of rashes exist, each with their own form of treatment. They can be causes by bacteria, parasites, viruses, and even fungi. Here are some common rashes and how you can treat them:

Eczema

One of the most common rashes that can develop, especially for children, is eczema. This form of rash can typically be found on the inner side of your elbows, knees, wrists, and ankles. Eczema can also develop across your cheeks and neck.

Psoriasis

Another common skin rash that can develop is called psoriasis. This form of rash usually develops on your scalp, knees, and elbows and appears as silvery flakes that fall off the impacted areas.

Hives

If you start seeing red, itchy bumps, you may have hives. This common rash typically goes away within eight hours but recur frequently. Hives can be caused by medication that you are allergic to.

Heat Rash (Miliaria)

During the blistering heat of summer, your sweat ducts may become shut, causing a heat rash. Also known as miliaria, this common rash will cause your skin to break out in small blisters and deep red color. Most individuals with heat rash will see it across their neck, upper chest, groin, and elbow creases. These individuals should seek a cooler environment immediately and place a cold washcloth on the affected area.

Treatments

While most rashes can fade on their own, some cases may require treatment. Most of these common rashes can easily be treated with over-the-counter medication. Hydrocortisone cream is effective in relieving any itching sensations brought on by the rash. Antihistamines can also help reduce the feeling of itchiness. Always make sure to keep any areas of your body that are prone to rash moisturized with lotion, especially during the summer. Any rashes caused by fungal infections should be treated with antifungal medications that have ingredients including clotrimazole, miconazole, and terbinafine.
